Hi there! My name is Adam Heckler and this is my website. 🙂

I’m assuming that if you wound up here, you probably already know me in some capacity. For those of you who don’t, well, I’m just this guy, you know?

The Short Version

I’m a Happiness Engineer at Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and other WordPress products. My wife Tara is pretty amazing. We have a cute dog named Oliver. I love chocolate chip cookies, lazy weekends, listening to podcasts, and ISO 8601 date formats (in that order).

The Long Version

I grew up in a small town in central Ohio, not too far from Columbus in fact. It was about the right mix of rural and middle-class suburban life. I never had to bale hay on a farm, for example, but we could leave the doors unlocked overnight without worrying.

After high school I attended Miami University in Oxford (no, not that Oxford). I made some friends, and learned a lot about the world and myself. Eventually, and thanks to what must have been some sort of clerical error, I graduated with a degree in Political Science.

Determined to put that education to use, I immediately went to work for… an IT firm. I took to the tech world fairly quickly (I’ve always been a nerd after all), especially user support. Simplifying and explaining complex ideas in layman’s terms turned out to be one of my natural talents.

While I was living in Cincinnati, I met a girl named Tara. 🙂 After six months of dating, we moved into a cute little duplex together. When she was accepted to a grad school program in Virginia, I followed her there. Luckily I managed to land a sweet work-from-home job just days before we moved.

At some point, I realized I was hopelessly in love, so I asked Tara to marry me in a little park near our apartment. She said yes! We exchanged rings and smooches in July of 2016. 😍

After Tara got her Masters, we moved back to the Midwest to be closer to our families. We now live in the lovely city of Bloomington, Indiana with our dog Oliver.

Aside from WordPress and all things Internet, I also enjoy hiking, throwing the frisbee, reading, and swinging in my hammock. In my spare time, I devise schemes for creating more spare time. My one superpower is the ability to not eat my vegetables at dinner.
